WHAT'S NEW

Heading into 2007 the outlook for the MMRS program is bright; the Fiscal Year 2007 Grant has been announced at $258,145 an increase of $30,553 from FY2006. Our top priority for the first of the year is to complete FY2005 projects by March 31st; which include:

  • acquiring Personal Protective Equipment for Salt Lake City Police

  • supporting an EOC Communications drill and a First Responder Prophylaxis drill

  • providing Salt Lake Valley Health Department with Syndromic Surveillance Software

  • supporting Disaster Volunteer Training- for more information check the calendar

  • acquiring mass casualty and Decon Equipment for area hospitals

  • maintaining a cache of Mark I kits and radiation exposure antidotes

The FY2006 award has been approved and the budget finalized. We will be supporting area hospitals in their ability to handle surge in epidemics and mass casualty incidents. MMRS will be a partner in establishing a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) for Salt Lake County, which will assure medical volunteers during disasters. MMRS also supports the metro area fire and hazmat teams in preparing for radiation emergencies as well as building collapse from earthquakes or terrorist acts. We are making sure our first responders (Fire, Police, and EMS) have proper protective gear and a means of receiving antibiotics or vaccines which will allow them to stay on the job during an outbreak or biological attack.

The Salt Lake MMRS looks forward to continuing to build on our relationships with member agencies and first responders across the State throughout the year.
